in February 2008 we moved from Leeds in glorious Yorkshire.....
.....to even more glorious Nelson in New Zealand
The detail
Here is the small print for those of you with too much time on your hands.
Having had enough of the English way of life (I wont bore you with the details) we decided we wanted to move somewhere that was:
- Warm and dry with snow in the winter and sun in the summer
- Near the sea and the mountains
- Spoke English
- Had house prices that were in touch with reality (just)
- Didn't have any scary animals who liked to sleep in your shoes or undies
After much searching, and after many near misses, we decided on Nelson in New Zealand. The only downside is that it is on the other side of the Earth to our friends and family but, you can't have everything.
So - after wintering in Madeira with Mr & Mrs Jennings Snr. we hopped on a plane and scooted down to Auckland. The journey wasn't exactly a none-stop trip of fun and laughter but, to be honest, it was over pretty quickly and is now, a few weeks later, a distant memory. If you want some detail on our journey down from Auckland to Nelson then click on the 'diary' link at the top of this page.
All I can say is that, so far, NZ has blown us away. The scenery is stunning, the weather has been brilliant, the people are welcoming and friendly and we feel very at home here after arriving in February 08. Reality will kick in sooner or later I am sure but for now all I can say is, if your thinking of doing something similar, we can highly recommend you jump in with both feet.
