Hmm - not sure if this is going to lead to anything but we are going to look at a pup this weekend down in Christchurch. It's a Basenji (look them up on the net) and Lisa is pretty smitten. We are sure we want a dog, I'm just baulking at the immediacy of it all. Anyway - I think one would make a good pet, they sound fun/friendly/intelligent/clean etc and there is no shortage of good walks on our doorstep (as well as cats for it to chew on). I'll keep you posted!

Further to the e-mail and link I just sent to you about this breed of dog, .....Now that we have seen this picture, we think that they look really nice.........we do hope that you are lucky to find THE ONE you really want. I'm never sure about dogs where you can see their arse. Can't you kind a breed which has a tail that covers up the offending orifice?

Not wishing to " vulgarise" this conversation, but we must disagree somewhat with the Copley's on this one................having owned quite a number of dogs, we find that if they have a tummy-upset (you'll know what I mean, Delhi Belly or something like that), it is much better to have a clear view of the offending orifice. It makes it much easier to take aim with the hosepipe!

Ha-Ha, fair points from both parties.

Anyway - its all change. If you can get over the ludicrasy of the name then check out Spoodles. They are supposed to be the most lovely, friendly, fun, happy dogs ever. And they look very cute. They have no hereditory problems that a 'pedigree' does and they are very good with kids.
We have blown the Basenji out now - good points made by mum that we knew but were kind of glossing over, and are now off to look at a little Spoodle on Saturday instead.

The spoodle is really cute! Much better than the basenji. They are a bit wild dog looking for me and the whole yodelling thing is a bit odd. I agree with steve about the bum 'ole. Hopefully the need to hose it down will not happen often!
Did you notice that the other name for a spoodle is cockapoo?
And have you seen a schnoodle?! Super cute!

Spoodles are rubbish, get a real spaniel like me. I am ace, you can't see my bumhole and I have a proper working dog heritage.

Don't get me started on schnoodles, bah!

Thanks Millydog - but its too late. We are now the proud owners of a super cute little Spoodle called Bones. He looks more like a spaniel than anything really but doesn't shed fur (unlike some dogs I could mention!). I'll post some pics. Its just a shame we have to keep telling people, when they ask, that its a Spoodle! Still, could have been worse (e.g. Cockapoo or Labradoodle or Schnoodle)
