Well, our first stint at caring for a pet ended a bit prematurely last week when we woke up to find both Mr. Tickles and Albi dead. Not sure what happened but one had crawled under the newspaper and died and the other had just flaked out on to of the little house. I figure it must have been too cold for them, but the shop keeper said this was pretty unlikely. I did hear a bit of a mousy ruckus coming from their cage during the evening, that I thought was just high jinx, but they could have been fighting themselves to the death, getting involved in some kind of suicide pact or being attacked by something more sinister. Anyway - Buster didn't really care so they ended up in the kitchen bin and we went out and got an all together more robust male mouse called Benny. He is twice the size, twice as fast and much better at making his way through our make shift assault course so things are looking good. He has also survived over a week in our possession no so this one might last a bit longer. We'll see.
I'll post some pics of the assault course once it's structure gets finalised.
Squeak Squeak.

Oh dear god Paul....the smell of animal death must be following you around. Poor little Benny, I give him one month in the house of the pig killer!

When this one pops his little clogs you might want to try adding him to your fresh meat menu, along with the pig. Seems a shame to waste a perfectly good corpse. Buster'd love little mouse-sized drumsticks.

(Jake... what exactly did you do to the dog to encourage it to bite your butt?)

Ah, Benny the rodent. Good luck mate...

Caught up with your big sis last weekend Paul. They were going to picking up the keys to their new place on Tuesday, and their stuff arrives soon too I think (I thought they had already moved in). The two cuddly dogs will be out of quarantine soon too, so they'll be all set.

I was in Melbourne because the old man was getting an award from Rotary recognising many years of commitment and effort. He didn't know that he was getting the award and Rod and I secretly attended the dinner too. He only found out we were there when he got back to his table. Emotional stuff.

On Sunday I had breakfast with Mum and Jimmy and that's when Wendy, Simon and Jasmine called in. Jasmine's a credit to them both, and it sounds like Simon is enjoying his first few weeks in the new job, identifying the challenges and opportunities. He's also on board to follow Essendon, so that's good.

What's happened to the Diary? How about a picture of the Birthday Girl enjoying her day?
We love this photo of Buster, is IT (mouse) still alive and kicking. Ken has demolished our water vole/brown rat colony now........he used to be a sniper when he was in the Army (Kenya in Mau Mau time).........so he enjoyed the challenge of being chief Rat Catcher.
