Sorry for this post - its purely showing off. On our goggle home page we always have the Leeds and Nelson weather showing so that we can see how things compare. As yesterday was the equinox (so shortest day for us, longest for the UK) I thought I would just reflect on what mid winter looks like out here. As you can guess, pretty good. The pictures at the bottom of this post were taken yesterday overlooking the port (some more on Fickr). We are yet to have a real spell of rain (which is causing trouble for the reservoirs) but it is bloody cold at night with frosts most mornings, which Lisa relishes as she rides to work on her bike (me and Buster just crank the electric blanket up to 10!).
Just thought you'd like to know anyway 8)

Yeah, don't you hate winter? Here in Perth we're stuck with 68/44, clear blue skies every day, though a little nipply at night.

View looks nice. Is that from your window?

Yes Paul, but come your summer when its insufferably hot and you've got swarms of flies trying to constantly land on your face will you still be showing off?

Please tell me more about this "goggle" you refer to?

Sorry to disappoint John but it rarely goes much above 90 in the summer with cool inshore breezes - we could also nip down to the beach for a dip if it gets to hot. Nyergh.

How was Wales with Joe blow - did he get out of the car park before cramping up? Did you go to the place we did - I read a big write up in Dirt for it the other day which made me a bit home sick - it was a good day out that (apart from the Ipod shuffle rule).

Anyway - come on over - we have room for you and there are more miles of MTB riding than you could tick off in a month.

Hows Moleys knee - bet its made him a happy camper at work.

And Garry - I'm with you. Having endured 35 English winters/summers (interchangeable) I think I've earned the right to be a bit smug. Hopefully be over to see you lot next winter/Christmas time - Wendy will be talking with a full accent by then.

Ciao Ciao

Is that view from the window - maybe after our Lotto comes in this weekend - but for now we are on the other side of the hill with views of a nuclear power plant run-off, mutated goats and subsuidance.

We've realised that you haven't pissed off to NZ but you actually are Lee McQueen who won the apprentice on BBC1. You're currently in London being a cock shouting 'that's what i'm talking about!' and actually working hard for a living in the smoke but you're too ashamed to admit it.

Seeing as the weather forecast for Wales was torrential rain for the whole weekend we pissed off up to Scotland to ride the world class 7 Stanes. In case you didn't know it has its own micro climate thanks to extensive mud flats so we experienced balmy summer weather with fantastic views over the Solway Firth to the Lake District. Flocks of birds flew out form the woodland across the firth framing the offshore islands with a beauty unparralleled in Western Europe.

With the summer solstice weekend we were blessed with warm sunlight caressing our tanned bodies and that of Fifi and Claudine from France who were camping next to us as they struggled to put up their tent. We were of course the consumate gentlemen and helped them put their poles in the right holes and offered them ice cold beer to recover from the sweaty experience long into the night.

The ride was long and classic with JK replacing his disc rotor in the car park to avoid any mechanicals allowing JP to fall off on the Scottish black and bend his rear mech hanger and bleat endlessly about his self changing gears- JK

Joe, of course began to blow towards the end of but thanks to JP holding back his early ride sprinting tendancies he made it through to the end. Nothing fell off his bike either which is always a bonus. The Scottish singletrack was good and and rocky but it was sometimes hard to focus on the lines as the sun was beating down so hard it blinded it you as it reflected off the rocks.

On return to the tent Claudine and Fifi were sunbathing topless, their pert French breasts glistening in the sun. They did'nt seem to mind us sneaking a cheeky glance as we cooked our tea. Obviously, as married men, we took it no further and we offed to the pub to quaff beer and then a walk along the beach with cigars round a campfire.

Currently, we are relaxing back with a coffee conteplating the view over the Firth. Claudine and Fifi have kindly offered us some eggs and bacon. Life could not be better. Campsites in the UK are amazing these days, this one has wireless internet so we are composing this on Joe's laptop while watching MTB clips of the 7 Stanes on youtube- JP

We have a full helmet cam experince of the trip including Fifi and Claudine uploaded at www.youtube.com/jfk262rek&naw!

I take it from that then that it was god awful wet, muddy, miserable and utterly not worth the effort. You pushed it too far when you said that nothing fell of Joe's bike (really, John, you can stretch reality only so far) and that he didn't blow till the car park (what, on the way out!). However, Joe's post did sound highly plausable - you always did like throwing yourself down the road for no apparent reason John - and I can just hear you whining about a bent real mech hanger ever 2 mins.

Sounds like a hoot my friends - hope it was as good as reported. Its wazzing it down here - my bragging has brought about the wrath of the weather gods.

Shalom

Hmmm - I was a believer for 10mins gentlemen but the BBC weather forecast for the weekend makes me question my faith : http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/7467745.stm

PJ - Wendy might be talking with a full accent by then but so will you! And the Kiwi accent always brings a smile. Ut wen't hippun overneght bet ut wull hippun!

I'm in Perth, which I notice is just further than Christchurch is from Melbourne (1,692 miles vs 1,493 miles).

JK & JP - I had a look on You Tube, but all I got was 'No Videos found for “jfk262rek&naw”', am I doing something incorrectly? I did have the parent filter on...

Not if I can help it Garry eh! Oh no, its started already eh!

I get the same from John and Joes youtube link - we got an e-mail from John's Mrs though and apparently it was gale force winds and rain all weekend for them and they ended up at home in front of the playstation so, in all likelihood, they were suffering from frost bite on their fingers when they were trying to upload it - as well as hallucinations. Ah, the great British summer.

Garry and PJ -
if you check the spelling backwards in the link after jfk262 you might get a hint of its accuracy....
alas there was no Fifi and Claudine, just our feverish imaginations after being stuck in the tent with nowt but the Guardian while the gales and rain tried to lift the tent off the ground....
