All change 04/21/2008

After watching the $-£ exchange rate plummet since Christmas we have finally taken the plunge and turned our pounds into dollars. I found a great service called NZForex that lets you watch the exchange rate in real time – updating every 15 seconds. The fluctuations can be quite significant so it really pays to sit in front of the screen and hit the ‘buy’ button at the right time. Now – the good side of this is more $ for your £, the bad side of it is that it turns it all into a giant gamble game – deal now, wait, rates up, rates down, hang on, jump ship, cash in or have faith?!?! After the best part of three weeks of obsessing, and a full 36hr stint at the end, the shine of ultimate control had definitely worn off. And after all that effort what do I get – NOWT, not a boat or even a PS3, Lisa already has plans for the extra that I am sure she will divulge (to you and me both) in time. Now just need to learn how to sleep again…..

'Money,Money,Money' .....la la la la
Silly Boy! Was it worth it?
Now I understand why you were
suffering with a ....."Daddy's head is hurting" from Buster on Saturday morning.
If Lisa's had to put up with that! a 36hours stint??
then I vote that SHE definitely gets the extra cash!

Did you say that you'd moved to Nelson to enjoy the wide open spaces and the lovely climate? Well, what are you waiting for....go ...

(how much Duty would you have to pay for that?)

You must now RESIST looking at any further UK/NZ currency figures otherwise you'll be kicking yourself when it peaks at a higher rate than you got - DON'T DO IT!

We're keeping our dosh in Kuwait at the moment - the £ seems to be drifting down in value, and I'm guessing the Kuwaiti economy is pretty recession-proof given the amount of oil they're sitting on. Only worrying factor is old G.W. If he decides to invade Iran quickly before leaving office a Kuwaiti bank might not be the best place to have funds!

Hello the two Copleys.
If George dubbleya doesn't do it, then Hillary will. In an election speech the other day, she promised to annihilate Iran if they step out of line!? What a threat, outrageous, yet that's the sort of thing that'll get her the votes. This time though, if they do, they won't have Tony Bliar hanging onto their coat-tails.
Hope that you both are enjoying your lifestyle and surroundings in Kuwait. I am guessing that the countryside is not as photogenic as Nelson.
Best wishes from Paul's mum and dad.

Hi Steve - yes, I know. Re-checking the exchange rate is the road to misery but its Oh so tempting just to try and justify the decision. I've managed to stay clear so far.

As for currency bang all your cash in the Yen - I've bored you before with this but apparently is really undervalued and is due for a huge clime, especially as the $ and £ fall deeper into recession. Then again, I what do I know - about 1% of nothing to be exact. One things for sure, any currency has got to be better that the Seychelles Rupee doesn't it?!

As for your comments mum - we are going to be having this site monitored by the CIA now. If you see a black limo pull up outside 4 Beechwood Croft run for the hills!

Not wishing to inflate your ego more than it already is Paul, but you actually have gift for this writing malarky. Have you thought of composing some sort of humerous novel about emigrating to NZ with a small boy and observations on their culture etc? I'm sure there would be a market for it, plenty of people think about doing what you've done but don't have the bottle to do it.

Thats is, unless Lisa is ghostwriting this for you, which I suspect she is.

Not much makes me nervous John (apart from swing bridges, spiders, ghosts and letters from the Inland Revenue) but you being pleasant/complimentary puts me on edge. What do you want?

Its not a bad idea, and cheers for the words of kindness, but I unfortunately have an interview on Monday that, if successful, will sap any desire I have to do extra curricular work of any kind. However, if I can get Lisa to ghost write the book (like she did for my Uni exams) then we might be onto a winner. I could sit here like Bubbles dictating award winning novels in my dressing gown and slippers whilst Lisa crafted my words of genius into a slick paperback format. I'll run it past her....

All my bikes got here in one piece eventually and are now sat in the garage ready for some action. I'll let you know about the riding but there seems to be at least 6 good single track loops leaving from just behind our new house, and one of the South Islands best downhill tracks, so I have high hopes. Make sure you bring your bike when you come over!

Peace out
