Cable Bay 03/23/2008
Just returned from a rather pleasant morning out at Cable Bay (its about 20mins from Nelson towards Picton). On the way we passed the ‘worlds longest flying fox’, which takes 15mins to fly you down from the local mountains. You sit, suspended in a chair for 4 people, and fly down about 1000m at subsonic speed. This time round we opted for a cup of tea and some cake instead but next time – oh yes. Just past the flying fox place was Cable Bay (photos here) – the water was crystal clear and there were a few people flying around on Kayaks and snorkelling. I ventured into the water but, to be honest, it was a bit chilly despite my excessive blubber – in the summer though its supposed to be about 23 degrees though so we’ll look forward to that. Anyway – Cable Bay is a kind of gateway to the Sounds so as soon as we hook a boat up we will be venturing further round the coast to see what they have to offer. You can camp anywhere you like over here, and light fires, and there are supposed to be tones of amazing little islands with seals and dolphins a-plenty so that should make for some fun weekends. I was seriously wondering where you'd got to and was considering jetting over to find you but have now decided to delay that for a while until you've kitted out your luxurious guest room!! JP Thu, 27 Mar 2008 03:55:39 "No doubt Paul will then be swiftly on your heels getting himself a job to keep you company.....??" PJ Thu, 27 Mar 2008 12:22:34 "I'm loving all the jibes on here about PJ's lack of any desire to find gainful employment." - whatever gets you through the day John my old mucka, I'm just off down the beach..... JP Fri, 28 Mar 2008 03:51:36 "I'm just off down the beach....." PJ Fri, 28 Mar 2008 12:54:44 Close, its a mobile shop (tray on a bit of rope) selling the finest counterfeit Dioor sunglasses, Ragga/dancehall CD's and some of those over sweet dry roasted nuts. I can earn up to 20 shekel's in one day if I walk the beach for 18hrs. Thats enough for 2 ice pops! JP Sat, 29 Mar 2008 03:13:35 Ha, ha! Well done, you are a comedy genius. PJ Sat, 29 Mar 2008 13:26:35 Agreed - I would be wasted at work, as you are John. Come over to NZ asap and we will start a kibbutz - I'll grow the veggies, you can be official blacksmith. Sun, 30 Mar 2008 11:01:11 "You can camp anywhere you like over here, and light fires..." PJ Sun, 30 Mar 2008 12:58:09 'Is that what you're most excited about - the fires?' - absolutely, 100%. When Matt, Kev, Jake and I used to go camping we had to drive 3hrs, then hike for 30mins to find somewhere secluded enough to get a good sized bommy going. Here I can fire one up on the beach and nobody even cares! Its fair to say its not quite as much fun with none of the 'camping 4' here to enjoy the blaze but turning sand into glass at the base of a minor inferno makes up for it a bit. Now where did I leave that petrol - WHUMP Leave a Reply |
