In our naivety we presumed that it would be no problem getting a flight from the UK to NZ via Melbourne. How wrong could we have been. Thanks to a tri nations cricket tournament in Hong Kong and Melbourne, as well as the Melbourne tennis, there are exactly 0 seats available between now and mid March - unless you spend £8k on buisness class. I still cant believe it - so much for growing air traffic problems. The only problem I have is that there isnt enough flipping air traffic - bring on another 5 terminals at Heathrow I say.

Our brilliant neighbour (and travel agent to the stars) Kath has spent the last 36hrs trawling through every possible route, airline etc. for us and we have now booked the following:

Leave the UK on the 21 February with Cathay Pacific
Fly straight to Aukland with a brief stop-over in Hong Kong for a bit of fuel.

Thats it - no big Jennings tour of the far East, no sitting with our Aussie relatives sipping Fosters in Melbourne. But - a flight with some decent leg room, leaving when we want and not costing a similar amount to the national debt of a small developing country.

So - the dye is cast. We now have 1 week to pack up and get out of our house, then another 3 weeks to say 'bye' to Blighty, then its chocks away. About time too I hear you say!

Man! I can't believe it's actually happening - I thought it was all just typical Jennings hot air... but you're actually off.

Bon voyage my friends and see you all very soon I hope.
