We flew out to Madeira on the 17 December for a couple of weeks of R&R and, mostly, to get away from the Christmas frenzy and cold weather. Its the first time we have been to Madeira but the Honourable Mr&Mrs J often reside here in the winter. Like Southport under a heatlamp I was thinking.

Well, the trip started a bit poorly with me writhing around the night before with food poisoning and then, one hour into the flight, the captain informed us it was time to turn around 'cause one of the engines on the plane was knackered. The upside was we got £5 of food vouchers to spend at the airport - the downside was that Lisa ate all mine as I shivered and shaked the wait away curled up in a ball in the terminal lounge.

On arrival at Funchal we had the obligatory crazy taxi ride (at least 300kmh with no more than 2" between the car in front and behind) to the appartment and man have we scored lucky. I wont bore you with too much detail but its a 2 bed, 2 bath modernised behemoth overlooking the crashing atlantic. Celia 'borrowed' it off a mate so all we needed to do was buy some food and bog roll and we were set. Like I said - sweet.

I'll do some updates on Maderia once we have had a good look around - suffice to say the weather has been great so far and I havent heard Slade or Cliff Richard once - bonus.
